Forgotten Series: Ice Climber

April 14, 2008

Ice Climber was a game for the Nintendo Entertainment System( NES ). The obejct of the game was to get to the top of the current level( Mountain ) and once on top a bonus game would occur. You would have to collect a certain vegetable and then grab the condor that is flying at the top of the level to conquer the mountain. If you were successful, you would be awarded bonus points!

Nintendo never released a sequel and Ice Climber was forgotten…

HOWEVER, Many years later, the Ice Climbers returned as playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Some people were really confused because they had never played the game, which meant that they wouldn’t know who the Ice Climbers were.

Then, in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the Ice Climbers returned yet agian. They were not as mysterious as they were before since the original Ice Climbers is released on the virtual console. But it is still a forgotten series.

Ice Climber could have become a great series, along with the other forgotten series. If Nintendo would just pay attention, they could make great games…

Forgotten Series: Kid Icarus

April 14, 2008

Kid Icarus was a game released for the NES about the same time as Metroid, it used the same game engine that Metroid did. Nintendo probably thought that people would like it, but there was something wrong with it…

THE DIFFICULTY!!

That game was almost impossible to beat, Whenever you died you had to start back at the beginning of a level with nothing but what you had when you started the level. Here’s an example: You start a level, collect 999 Hearts( Hearts are money ), buy a whole lot of useful items, then fall off the screen. You are forced to start at the beginning of the level with what you had when you started, it’s as if nothing you did happened! This get extremely annoying at the dungeon levels, where you have to explore huge dungeons, most of them have eggplant-men who will turn you into an eggplant. When you’re turned into an eggplant, you have to find out where in the dungeon the hospital is so you can be turned back to normal, not only that, but you cannot use any weapons while in eggplant-form. You’re completely defenseless, But even with all of that it was still a good game. Oh, sure it had its problems and glitches, but it was still a great gaming experience.

“Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters” was released for the gameboy, it used the Metoid 2 engine just like Kid Icaurs used the Metroid engine. I never played it, but from what I heard it was a good game. People enjoyed this game and hoped that Nintendo would release a third game, because only after three games is a series truly considered a series, But Nintendo never released a third game. They just stopped…

Many years later, it was announced that Pit( The main character from kid Icarus. ) would be a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Then Kid Icarus was released on the virtual console, modified so cheaters couldn’t cheat their way to the last level, cheating up the game. Even with the return of Pit and the original Kid Icarus, we still haven’t seen a new Kid Icarus game.

Will Nintendo Ever release a new Kid Icarus game, or is it forever forgotten, never again to grace our gaming consoles. Only time will tell, until then, NINTENDO, MAKE A NEW KID ICARUS GAME!!!

Thank you for reading.

Forgotten Series: Mother / Earthbound

April 14, 2008

Mother…

What do you think of when you hear that word? Most People think of a kind woman, feeding and caring for her child…

That’s not what I think…

“Mother” was a game released only in japan for the Famicom( Known in America As The NES ). It was created by Shigesato Itoi. It was an RPG starring a Psychic boy named “Ninten”( Yea, I know. ), a smart but shy kid named “Lloyd”( or Loid, I don’t know.), a gifted girl named “Ana”, and tough guy who runs a gang( The B.B. Gang ) named “Teddy”. It was extremely popular in japan, Nintendo once translated it, but never released it due to the fact that the SNES had already been released.

“Mother 2″ was a “Sequel” to the original Mother. It starred a Psychic Boy Named “Ness” who travels with his friends to save the world from the inexplicable being known as “Giygas” who wants to destroy the world for some reason. “Giygas” was actually the villian from “Mother” and He’s getting his revenge( I think… ). “Mother 2″ was released in America under the name “Earthbound”! Nintendo expected the game to sell millions of copies, they spent thousands of dollars with all of the marketing for the game, the game even had a HUGE box that included a strategy guide! They even had a vomit monster that said “This Game Stinks.” The game actually did not sell very much in America, but in japan, people were buying it like crazy!

When super smash bros. for the N64 came, Ness was an unlockable character, That caused a lot of confusion since not a lot of people played that game, which meant that they wouldn’t know who Ness was…

Super Smash Bros. Melee was released for the gamecube, and again Ness was an unlockable character…

In 2006, “Mother 3″ was released for the GBA, yes it was only in japan. Nintendo never released it here. They just gave up on America ever accepting the “Mother” series and stopped our supply of Mother-Related Games.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released for the Wii, and it Included Ness AND it included Lucas from Mother 3… Not only that, but they removed Earthbound as a demo from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

So here we are, a game series loved in japan, but forgotten in America. Well, it isn’t completely forgotten, There’s A group trying to translate mother 3 “mother3.fobby.net” and a website for those obsessed with earthbound “starmen.net”…

Please Nintendo, don’t let one incident prevent you from selling Mother games here. Please release them in America…

Wii Storage Space

April 13, 2008

The Nintendo Wii is perfect in almost every way.

It has an innovative control scheme, Connectivity with the Nintendo DS, AND the NIntendo Wi-Fi USB connector provides the Wii with the SAFEST way to connect to the internet.

Even with all of these great qualities that the Wii has, there is one MAJOR problem keeping me from fully enjoying my gaming experience. I’m talking about the Storage Space!

Internally. the Wii has a measly 512MB of storage space… To make things worse, less than 300MB is actually accesible to the Wii owner. What was Nintendo thinking!? They could have at least put 10GB! After all, something as small as an SD card is able to hold 2 to 4 times the Data that the Wii (which is MUCH larger than an SD card) can…

It may not sound like such a problem to the casual gamer, but consider this. The Wii Virtual Console has MANY games that you can download. With the Wii’s storage problem, you’re limited to downloading only a few games if you want to have enough storage space on your Wii for your Video Game’s Save Data AND The Internet Channel. The N64 Games and Internet Channel Are Real Space Hogs, they take up too much space! With the release of WiiWare, this problem will only worsen.

I don’t want to tell you how many games I’ve had to delete JUST to free up space for other games! This is ridiculous!

What I’m trying to say is: NINTENDO! PLEASE RELEASE A HARD DRIVE FOR THE WII, OR AT LEASE ENABLE US TO CONNECT A HARD DRIVE TO OUR WII THROUGH THE USB PORT!

That’s all I’m asking…

Thank You for reading this.

Just so you know, Nintendo is actually my favorite video game company. I grew up playing Nintendo Games, they introduced me to video games. I remember When I was 4, Playing with my older brother’s SNES…

Please Nintendo, Listen to me.
